Thyme Heal’s Comfrey/plantain Ointment is a heavier preparation than our creams.  Comfrey/plantain Ointment provides a good barrier for damaged skin, keeping moisture out whilst healing occurs and making the active constituents more available for healing.  It has been effectively used for nappy rash and is absolutely safe on babies’ skin.  Comfrey/plantain Ointment soothes and moisturises dry, cracked skin and encourages the knitting together of damaged tissue.  It also makes a great lip salve.

Made up in pure beeswax.

Active ingredients are:

Comfrey - has been used for thousands of years to heal and soothe damaged tissues and was listed in the British Pharmacopoeia as a treatment for skin wounds and ulcers.  One of the healing constituents of the plant, allantoin, has been synthesised by the pharmaceutical industry to use as skin healing agent for the very uses for which comfrey is well known - to stimulate and hasten wound healing!  Comfrey is an approved medicine in Germany today for treating bruises, sprains and joint problems and it has been shown to be as effective, if not better than, pharmaceutical pain relief.  It is also anti-inflammatory.

Plantain - the Romans considered plantain such a valuable healing plant that they took it with them when they invaded England.  It is an accepted anti-inflammatory herb and is well known traditionally for healing skin injuries like blisters and ulcers.  It has been shown to stimulate collagen synthesis which confirms its traditional use as a great skin healing agent.

Lavender oil - contributes to the healing effect of Thyme Heal’s Comfrey/plantain Ointment by providing a broad spectrum antimicrobial action (to stop broken skin becoming infected) and it is also anti-inflammatory.  Lavender’s stimulating action improves blood supply to damaged tissues so that the body’s own healing ability is enhanced.
